
Ursuline Wimbledon
The Ursuline Convent School, which opened on 9th January 1893, significantly less than annually after the first four nuns appeared to open up the convent into the Spring of 1892. There have been seven students, among who had been Evelyn Boord, who as Mother Mary Angela Boord, became a legendary and revolutionary Ursuline. The woman long life suggested that she's remembered vividly by many people Ursulines still living. Through the start, the college involved with exciting educational experiences.
In 1898, a tiny team decided to go to the Lyceum Theatre to see Ellen Terry and Henry Irving in "The vendor of Venice", even in those times a truly memorable getaway!
Today, the college was established in a property on Worple Road, although not for very long. In 1901, the school relocated to the Claremont building regarding Downs, and gradually began its growth across the terrain, obtaining various properties, and creating others until it reached the boundaries for the current web site stretching through the lows to Crescent Road, including in addition current Arts Centre plus the Preparatory School across The lows into eastern. Situated simply away from area which is why the federal government suggested evacuation, of all the Ursuline schools in London, Wimbledon had been the only one never to be evacuated during the 2nd world war.
